Problem diagnosis takes the notion of participation a step further in configuration management training by involving those who are to change their practices in the problem definition stage of the process. This corresponds with the view of user participation in information systems development advocated in the field of participatory design. Here, the "user" and the "designer" participate on equal terms in problem identification as well as design and evaluation of solutions i.e., new information systems.
