I have been a big aviation and Apple fan for as long as I can remember. I used to love flying model planes with my father so figured the merge of Apple and ipod video would work. As I grew up, I still remained an aircraft enthusiast. I had originally wanted to be a pilot, My eyesight was very poor, so I never made the cut. Nonetheless, I can still get to live my dreams vicariously through watching airshows and aviation videos. The first aviation video I saw was actually only a couple years ago. I have always liked to go to air shows whenever I could, but I had never thought about watching aviation videos until that point. I had always assumed that some of the grandeur of aviation would be lost on the TV screen. After all, part of what got me to airshows was hearing the booming rumble of the jet engines and seeing how incredibly high in the air they were. Nonetheless, when one of my friends sent me an aircraft video that he insisted I had to see, I give it a try. As it turns out, I was not to be disappointed. It was from a Discovery Channel documentary about the Blue Angels, and some of the most spectacular footage I had ever seen. You could see them flying in formation as if you were right there beside them. It also switched views a lot, which was nice. It would allow you to see the pilot’s eye view, the view from the ground, and the following camera view which showed the whole formation from a pretty close-up perspective.Since then, I have gotten into aviation videos of all kinds. I like it all. I enjoy watching aircraft races, airplane training videos, and of course air show films. My favorite ones of all, however, are the simulated dogfight videos. Sometimes you see them in movies like top gun. Other times, you can actually get ahold of clips from aircraft dogfighting training videos. I have spent hours and hours playing on flight simulators, but somehow these films beat it all. There’s nothing like watching the pros do what they do best. The death-defying stunts, narrow misses, and amazing maneuvering give me an adrenaline rush like nothing else that I know. Even if I only get to see a few minutes of dog fighting a movie, it will usually get me hooked. Even fantasy movies like Independence Day and Star Wars are thrilling to watch.
