Jones fracture
A Jones fracture involves a fracture at base of fifth metatarsal at what is known as the metaphyseal-diaphyseal junction. It also usually extends into the 4-5 intermetatarsal joint area. It is usually located within 1.5 cm distal to tuberosity at the base of 5th metatarsal. It should not be confused with the more common avulsion fracture of the 5th metatarsal styloid, which is also at the base of the fifth metatarsal. It also needs to be distinguished from the chronic fracture that can happen following a stress fracture in the base of the fifth metatarsal. This could be a chronic injury that might lead to a serious one.
